The Common App (Common Application) is an undergraduate university admission application for applying to most of the US universities, including big names such as Yale, Stanford, Princeton, Columbia, and Harvard.

The Common App contains the most important information of a student to help admission officers to make acceptance decisions. Students have to put in their personal data, school and standardized test results, extra-curricular activities, honors, and answer a few writing prompts. They also have to invite teachers as their recommenders.

Completing the Common App is more than filling in bubbles and checking boxes. If students do it right, they will be able to present their strengths, uniqueness and personality very effectively, thus getting a better chance of winning the university admission game.

The key is: how to sell a student to the top universities, such as Columbia, U Penn, and the University of Chicago in the Common App?

This seminar aims at helping parents to understand what universities look for from the Common App and learn how to organize and present information strategically, and increase the chance of getting accepted.

Topics that Dr. Montgomery will cover include:
• A closer look at the Common Application
• Why universities want this information and what they look for
• What should be done before filling out the Common App
• What to say about the “Level(s) of Recognition” of the honors received and achievements in Grade 9
(Year 10 or Form 3 equivalent)?
• Manage the essays and teacher recommendations efficiently
• Effective one-year action plan

Dr. Montgomery will also share his experience in helping the 2015 cohort students to secure an offer from the top universities.

Target Audiences
• Parents with a Grade 11 (Year 12/Form 5) child
• Aim at getting an offer from one of the top universities in December
